VF Corporation
A sustainable design summit to shape the future
VF Corporation, one of the world’s largest apparel, footwear, and accessories companies, owns iconic brands such as Vans, The North Face, Timberland, and Napapijri. Each year, VF gathers design leaders from across its portfolio for a summit to redefine the design function. In 2019, VF commissioned designlaboratory* to curate, manage, and deliver the Design Summit, focusing on sustainability, innovation, and the design process. Over the course of the summit, we guided VF’s creative leaders through a journey of insights and ideation, ultimately leading to a strategy shift aimed at becoming planet positive by 2030.

Our role for the Design Summit 2019 included curating speakers, organising visits, and running workshops, all centred around the themes of sustainability and product innovation. We created a comprehensive Trends & Insights Report on sustainability, which informed a series of workshops in areas like strategy, design, and innovation.
For the event, we prioritised sustainability in the design of digital and print assets. We adopted a minimalist approach, using white recycled paper and printing with less ink. Digital assets featured black backgrounds with white text to minimise energy consumption, while print materials were designed to reduce ink usage. The result was a fully integrated, sustainable approach to design, reinforcing VF’s commitment to a positive environmental impact.
